Hi, I need to file a patent for an idea for an invention but even though I have a clear and detailed knowledge of exactly what it should do and how it should function, I don’t have the technical know-how to provide such technical details for the patent. I wanted to know if I could still file a patent claim without most of the technical details.

Hello

Thank you for contacting us.

You cannot patent an idea, a patent is meant to protect the technical process of how something works, and its functionality. Therefore it will be impossible to fully protect just an idea using the patent route. While it is possible to potentially patent it, it is very likely that the patent will be susceptible to a legal challenge. Please note that there might be other ways you can protect the idea if you are unable to use a patent. We therefore suggest that you should consider speaking to a lawyer. You may schedule a consultation with an IT lawyer by choosing one of either the professional or premium consultation packages here – https://lawpadi.com/consultation-packages/
