Civic Rights 101
What are your rights and responsibilities as a Nigerian citizen? What personal and group actions can you take to influence positive change in Nigeria?
This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society.
It will help you develop your understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in Nigeria and how you can get involved using constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Day 1: Right to Vote
Our first lesson examines the right which every Nigerian attains once they become 18 years old – the right to vote. This lesson looks at the constitutional provisions which govern and protect this right.
Lesson 2 : Right to Contest in Elections
This lesson explains the rules on who is qualified to run for elective posts, what information is required, and what process to follow for those who are considering running for political office.
Lesson 3 : Information Rights
Did you know that as a citizen of Nigeria you are entitled to receive certain information from your public officials and public bodies on a periodic basis? This lesson explains what information you are entitled to, and how to request for an obtain this information.
Lesson 4 : Participatory Rights
Participating in the governance process is not limited to those who have been elected into political office. Every citizen has the power and right to be able to participate in governance. This lesson teaches you how to participate from the outside.
Lesson 5 : Enforcement Rights
For every right there is a remedy. This lesson explains what you can do if your civic rights are being infringed on, or if you want to enforce specific rights.
