I read your article on cyber stalking and how huge of a crime it is, but I currently do have two stalkers stalking me for over 15months now, I have been to the station several times but they don’t take it seriously probably because I’m a guy. They’ve resorted to defamation of character and together they’ve so far created a total of over 30 anon accounts online to keep tabs. Can you please guide me on the proper step to take or Agency to take this case to. Thanks.
Thank you for contacting us.
The first thing you should do is work on getting the anonymous accounts shut down. Contact the admin of whatever website the accounts are being created and lodge a complaint. The complaint procedure will vary per company. Before you do this however, be sure to keep evidence of the alleged defamatory information being posted.
If you know the identity of the people posting the information, then you should consider bringing an action for defamation of character, and a court order preventing the individuals from harassing and defaming you in future.
This way you are able to stop the perpetrators from defaming you and you are potentially able to obtain damages for the previous acts of defamation. As defamation is both a civil and criminal offence, you may proceed with the civil case since the police are not interested in taking any action.
